Wheat Crunchies was introduced by Sooner Foods (a Rowntree Mackintosh Group company) in 1985. The brand was sold to Golden Wonder in 1987.

In 2006, Wheat Crunchies was purchased by United Biscuits and put under the KP Snacks umbrella.

In June 2012, United Biscuits relaunched Wheat Crunchies with a new logo, 'improved taste', a new Cheddar & Onion flavour and a bigger snack size.
In November of that year KP Snacks was also bought by Intersnack Group, meaning that Wheat Crunchies were now owned by Intersnack.
