Following a takeover bid from Paternoster Stores Ltd. (later Woolworth Holdings, and now Kingfisher) in 1982, Woolworth stores in Britain were given a refresh starting from 1985.

The new branding, initially codenamed 'Operation Focus', was accompanied by the removal of the retailer's least popular lines and a name change. The name, as a result, was changed to "Woolworths". All stores had received the new look by 1990.

The logo was used in tandem with the 2004 logo until all Woolworths stores were closed in 2009.

Launched:  May 2008 (advertisements)
September 2008 (website)

This logo was first used in adverts in May 2008 and was then rolled out to the website in September 2008. For the first time since the 1970s, the wordmark is no longer fully capitalized.

It was intended to be a new logo Woolworths would implement ahead of the centenary in November 2009, but the store's collapse prior meant this didn't go ahead.

Currently, the German Woolworths company owns the rights to the "Woolworth" brand and name in the UK and Ireland, having acquired them from The Very Group from 2021 to 2024.
