On the 9th June 2019, The IAAF announced plans to change their name to World Athletics after collectively approving the rebrand at a council meeting in Monaco the previous day. The effort spans back to January 2018, where five major branding firms were invited to pose a solution to be chosen and approved by IAAF members. The IAAF hopes that the new identity will "attract and engage" a younger generation of athletes. The new name and logo was made official on the 15th November that year.
