On March 13, 2020, Apple announced that WWDC 2020 would be an online-only event due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. WWDC 2020 was hosted on the Apple Developer app and on developer.apple.com. This is the first WWDC to have a Swift Student Challange, where students created Swift Playgrounds at the topic of their choice, and the winners won a WWDC jacket and pin set.

On March 30, 2021, Apple announced the second WWDC would be held online-only for the second time. In this years Swift Student Challenge, students won an exclusive WWDC21 outerwear, a customized pin set, and one year membership in the Apple Developer Program.
2022[]
On April 5th, 2022, Apple announced that WWDC would be held online the third time. Select developers were invited to view the WWDC Keynote and Platorms State of the Union videos at Apple's developer center. This year also marked the third Swift Student Challange, where students won exclusive WWDC22 outerwear, a customized pin set, and one year membership in the Apple Developer Program.
