On May 31, 2017, XETV disaffiliated from The CW, sending the affiliation to the second digital subchannel of KFMB. This ended the station's 64 year run serving Tijuana and San Diego as an English language television station.

Canal 5* switched to XETV's primary channel following the station's shutdown in San Diego making the Spanish language station.
