In August 2001, it was launched as a TV channel. Its programs could still be watched on analogue TV1 and TV2 channels until the end of analogue television broadcasts in 2007.

On 27 April 2017, Yle Fem merged with Yle Teema to create Yle Teema & Fem as an unique linear television channel. Programs can still be watched separately on Yle's website.
