The ZX Spectrum (British English: /zɛd ɛks/, American English: /zee ɛks/) is an 8-bit home computer developed and marketed by Sinclair Research. One of the most influential computers ever made and one of the all-time bestselling British computers, over five million units were sold. It was released in the United Kingdom on April 23, 1982, and around the world in the following years, most notably in Europe and the United States.
